【Abstract】

<正> The life assessment of structures containing cracks requires an understanding of the relationship between the behaviour at the crack tip as well as the overall behaviour of the structure. The paper discusses direct methods for the evaluation of the range of load or temperature variation based upon two alternative criteria; that the crack tip field satisfies a fracture criterion and the overall behaviour does not exceed a ratchet boundary.
