Dynamic Flight Stability of a Hovering Hoverfly

【Abstract】

<正>The equations of motion of an insect with flapping wings are derived and then simplified to that of a flying body using the‘rigid body' assumption.Based on the simplified equations of motion, the longitudinal dynamic flight stability of a hoverfly in hovering flight is studied.It is shown that the‘rigid body' assumption is reasonable and that hovering flight of the insect is unstable due to the existence of an unstable oscillatory mode.
