<正>NADPH oxidases (Nox) are major sources of oxidative stress in the artery wall, and underlie many forms of artery disease and reperfusion injury including hypertension, atherosclerosis and stroke. We showed that the Nox4 isoform of the catalytic subunit of NADPH oxidase is the predominant source of superoxide generated in vascular smooth muscle cells (Ellmark et al 2005; Jiang et al 2004) and the endothelium of mice and humans (Peshavariya et al 2006).
