<正>Diabetic cardiomyopathy is a severe cardiac complication leading to increased heart failure and death for diabetics. Evidence from a number of laboratories suggests that reactive oxygen species (ROS) contribute to diabetic cardiomyopathy: The heart contains low levels of free radical scavengers making it a prime target for oxidative damage. Overall antioxidant status is reduced in diabetes. Gene expression studies show induction of cardiac antioxidant enzymes in diabetes.
