【Abstract】

Using Singapore as a case in point, this paper attempts to answer the question "Can a culture be modified to foster and stimulateeconomic development?" This study shows that social controls helped adeveloping country in creating political stability and social cohesion that allowed for rapid economic development but not without costs.
