Free vibration analysis of simply supported sandwich beams with lattice truss core

【Abstract】

Periodic cellular metal,with the feature of integration of structure and function,is a novel kind of engineering material.In the present paper,free vibration of AISI 304 stainless steel sandwich beams with pyramidal truss core is investigated under the simply supported condition.Discrete cores are equally homogenized to continuum materials.Considering the property of the deformation of sandwich structures,the following assumptions were made:1) The depth of sandwich beams does not change during deform process;2) For thin faces,only bending deformation is considered neglecting the effect of transverse shear deformation;3) For the core,only shear deformation is considered because the core is too weak to provide a significant contribution to the flexural rigidity of the sandwich,and the shear stress is assumed to be constant over the depth of the core.According to Hamilton's principle,the governing equations of free vibration are derived.For pyramidal lattice sandwich beams under the simply supported condition,the natural frequencies are computed.At last,finite element analysis is carried out to get the mode shapes and natural frequencies using ABAQUS.Comparison has been made between theoretical solutions and numerical simulations.It can be found that theoretical solutions coincide well with numerical simulations and homogenization of core can be used to calculate the natural frequencies of lattice sandwich beams.This method also can be used in free vibration analysis of sandwich beams with other topology configurations and lattice sandwich beams made by other materials.
